Interested…  Registration is currently open for the CIESE Noon Day Project!!!
---------------------------------------------
Project Title: The Noon Day Measurement Collaborative Project
Time Frame: March 3rd – April 11th, 2008
Target Measurement week(s): March 17-28, 2008*
Project Website: http://www.stevens.edu/ciese/noonday

Summary: Over 2,000 years ago Eratosthenes made a remarkably accurate measurement of the earth's circumference. This project is a recreation of that measurement and requires collaboration of students in places at different latitudes on the earth to make shadow measurements, share data, use a spreadsheet (optional) to make comparisons, and then replicate and share their results.

Grade Level: Grades 5-12

In addition to the Noon Day Project Opening, I would also like to announce the (pseudo) retirement of Ihor Charischak from CIESE and as Project Leader for Noon Day.  I have taken over the reigns and with Ihor’s guidance it should be a smooth transition.  (Although after the last couple days I’m actually hoping it simply smoothens out; I’ve sure everyone can relate to days like that).  If you have any questions about the project feel free to email me Gregory.bartus@stevens,edu and/or cc Ihor Charischak at his new email address at ihor@dmcpress.org

Cheers!

Greg
