St Pius X/ St Leo School

Hello,
We are eighth graders from Omaha, Nebraska, USA. There are 115 of us. We attend a Catholic School for first through eighth graders called St. Pius X/ St. Leo School. The school population is 826. Nebraska is pretty much in the center of the continental U.S. at 41.3 degrees North and 95.9 degrees West. And while we ARE very proud of our two time National Champion Cornhuskers (American Football--University level), there is lots more to our state than football and corn. We live in the largest city of Nebraska with a population of about 400,000. We get involved in soccer, basketball, and volleyball.

We joined this project because we are studying Earth Science this year. We just learned about the solstices and equinoxes and why they occur in respect to the earth's position in its orbit and the tilt of its axis.

We have a saying in Nebraska that goes, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes - it will change." That pretty much sums it up. We definitley get to experience the change of seasons, and sometimes out of order! We had a major snowstorm on the 26th of October that fell before the leaves did, so we had major tree damage and power outages. But, today we are having a beautiful autumn day!!

This note seems plenty long, so we will sign off.

Until next time--Peace to all.
