We have 11 boys and 10 girls in our 5th grade class. We study Science, Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. Right now we are studying Light & Sound in Science. We are participating in a reading contest called Book It. If we read 15 minutes a night for 5 days a week, at the end of the month, we earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut, a local restaurant. We also practice Geography and Spelling.
Our school has about 375 students from grades K - 6. We are called the Buck-Skins. Our symbol is the Conestoga Wagon, and our school district is called Conestoga Valley.
We have a group of people who live in our area called the Amish. They don't use modern electricity. They make their own clothes. They also make very good food, and have very big families. They grow their own crops. They farm tobacco and dry it, and sell it to companies. We have a girl in our homeroom who is Amish. Amish are very intelligent people. In fact, one of the schools in our district is a two-room Amish school house. They don't move on beyond 8th grade but begin to work on their farms after eigth grade.
We look forward to hearing from all of you!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jones's 5th grade class
