Activity 1: Class Letter of Introduction
The purpose of the letter of introduction is to initiate a collaboration between your class and other classes from schools all around the world.  In addition, the goals you set for your class also helps to continue to improve the lessons that have been developed here.

1. Write a Class Letter of Introduction. See some examples

You should include the following:

  • Background information (Name of your school, grade level, location of your school (City, State / Province, Country), your Latitude and Longitude, some information about your school and community
  • What hypotheses you have developed and will test in the Human Genetics Project.  Most commonly students formulate a hypothesis around the percentage of students with the dominant or recessive traits, but other hypotheses are encouraged.
  • What are your goals for the project?
  • What parts of the website will you try to do?  The basic analysis addresses a hypothesis formed around the percentage of students with the dominant and recessive trait.  In addition, there are a number of other optional analyses that address other concepts related to understanding genetics.
2. Once your Class Letter of Introduction is ready, please submit it to the Discussion Area of this project. Be sure to include the name of your school , city , and country in the Subject area of the message in the Discussion Area.
  • e.g. "Letter of Introduction from South Kalgoorlie Primary School, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Australia"
3. Once your Class Letter of Introduction is posted, return to the Discussion Area frequently and respond to postings from other participating schools.
