Question: Have the organisms and data in our wetland changed since our
fall visit?
Hypothesis:
Half of our 4th grade class believes that there will be a difference in
the organisms from our last visit, and half believe there will not be a
measurable difference.
Procedure:
Our class studied the data we collected from our last visit. We thought
about the effects that winter months would have on our wetlands. We made
predictions about water depth, numbers of Coho salmon trapped, numbers of macroinvertebrates collected, and amount of trash around the edge
before we arrived the second time. With the help of a local watershed
group, we traveled to our adopted wetland on May 3. While we were there,
we learned about predator and prey relationship in a wetland, we caught
fish in traps, we dip netted for insects, we tested the ph and
temperature of the water, we looked for wood frogs which are mating this
time of year, and we picked up garbage around the area. Each student
received an identification sheet printed from the project's website.
Here are the results of the Spring trip compared to the Fall trip.

Fall 14 freshwater snails
