TM Lesson 4.7 Pricing Pizzas
Computer Workshop 5 (from Technology Sourcebook)
This activity involves making a spreadsheet to determine the best buy
among five cheese pizzas. The diameter and the price of each pizza are
given.

1. Make a prediction about which pizza is a best buy
in terms of price per square inch.
2. Use Excel to make this chart:

3. Enter the data for size in inches and cost. Make
the Cost column have a $ format. Choose Cells from the Format menu and
click on Currency.
4. The area column requires a formula (A=pi*r*2 ). In
spreadsheet language it is written as
= 3.14 * (A2 / 2) * (A2 / 2)
5. Fill down (or replicate) the formula to cells C3,
C4, C5, and C6.
6. Determine a formula for the unit price (cost per
square inch) and enter it in D2. (Remember: formulas start with
an = sign!). Replicate to the cells below.
7. Sort the prices.
8. Which pizza is the most economical? Why?
9. Which pizza is the least economical? Why?
