Is it Fair: The Single Cube Game?

In this activity you use a Microworlds Applet to roll one cube many times. The object is to see if you can predict which event (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) will come up most often and win the race.

The computer just rolled one cube 105 times and 3 was the winner.

  • Try it again. What happened this time?
  • Can you predict which number will win if we roll the die 500 times? Why?
  • Is this a fair game? Does each number have the same chance of winning? Explain?

Is it Fair: The Two Cube Game?

Repeat the activity with 2 dice.
Does every outcome have the same chance of appearing like in the one cube game?
Have the computer roll two dice 500 times. Is this a fair game?
Use this chart to help you explain.
